  • December 6

    On December 6, 1865, the 13th Amendment was passed, abolishing legalized slavery

  • February 2

    On February 2, the 1819 Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Marshall handed down a landmark decision in Dartmouth College v. Woodward.

  • February 27

    On February 27, 1804, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice John Marshall, found in Little v. Barreme that the Executive Branch does not possess “inherent authority” or “inherent powers” that would permit it to disregard an act of Congress.
